Meet the experts behind classic and prestige motor insurance

Q. How long have you been working at Dawes and what does your current role entail?

A. Just over a year, I joined Dawes in March 2020. As a motor underwriter I assess new business and renewals to ensure they’re priced correctly and make changes to policies as required. I work across our classic, prestige and exotic cars and motorbikes products.

Q. How did you come to specialise in motor insurance?

A. Like many people I fell into insurance after finishing school. I spent 14 years at NRMA and during my time there I worked across home, motor and a range of their leisure products in customer support as well as user acceptance testing. At one stage I put up my hand to work in their classic car department for a period of time as I saw it as an opportunity to learn something new. At first it was quite foreign to me, but the more I learned about the cars and their histories, the more interested I became in classic and modern classic cars and the stories behind them. When this role at Dawes came along I jumped at the chance to permanently specialise in underwriting and in this area of insurance.

Q. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

A. There are some great walks around where I live, many of which I discovered during the COVID-19 lockdowns, so I really enjoy exploring the great outdoors when I’m not working. Aside from that I like to socialise and wind down with family and friends discovering new bars and restaurants.

Q. What type of car do you drive and what is your dream car?

A. I drive a Mazda 3 hatch but my dream car would be an LX Holden Torana from the mid 1970s.

Q. Is there a road trip you’d love to do?

A. I’d love to drive from Sydney up to Far North Queensland, as far up as you can go, just to be able to say that I’ve done it. I’m sure my Mazda could make it!
